ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - It's been 40 years since the assassinationof Robert F. Kennedy and he's getting a New York bridge renamed in
his honor.
The former senator and younger brother of President John F.
Kennedy, was shot to death in Los Angeles during the 1968
presidential nominating campaign. Kennedy had just finished a
speech at the Ambassador Hotel after winning the California primary
when he was shot in a crowded passageway by Sirhan Sirhan.
The Triborough Bridge, which leads to the airport named for John
F. Kennedy is getting renamed for his younger brother.
The bridge, opened in 1936, is actually a complex of three
bridges, a viaduct and 14 miles of approach roads connecting
Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens.
Kerry Kennedy, one of RFK's 11 children says it's a fitting
tribute given his father's commitment to bridging divides between
people.
