WASHINGTON (AP) - The Library of Congress has picked another 25movies to add to its collection of the best ever made.
This year's list of classic films ranges from a 1921 silent
movie called "Tol'able David" to the multiple Oscar winner from
1990, "Dances with Wolves."
In between are such greats as "Oklahoma," "Bullitt" and "12
Angry Men."
Also being added to the National Film Registry is 1948's "The
Naked City," a gritty crime drama filmed on location in New York.
This year's additions bring the total to 475.
Aside from the honor, being added to the list ensures that the
movies are meticulously preserved for future generations. Librarian
of Congress James Billington notes that about half off all movies
produced in the U.S. before 1950 have been lost forever.
Movies added to the list are chosen because they are
"culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant.
