CALVERT – Governor Bob Riley on Friday will join company officials and state and local leaders to break ground for the $3.7 billion ThyssenKrupp steel processing plant at the project site located near Calvert in northeastern Mobile County. In May, Governor Riley announced that German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp would build a state-of-the-art steel and stainless steel processing facility in Alabama worth a total investment of $3.7 billion, making it the largest economic development project in state history. Once operational, the facility will employ 2,700 people and create tens of thousands of indirect jobs over a 20-year period. More than 29,000 jobs are expected to be generated during the construction of the mega-project.
