CALVERT, Ala. (AP) - A host of dignitaries, including Governor Bob Riley, were on hand today when ThyssenKrupp broke ground for its massive state-of-the-art steel and stainless steel processing facility in the Calvert community, just northeast of Mobile.The German steelmaker already has begun clearing the 35 hundred-acre site for its $3.7 billion steel mill - its considered
one of the biggest industrial projects in the world.
ThyssenKrupp said it will employ 29-thousand construction workers over the next three years and 27 hundred full-time steelworkers when it opens for production in early 2010.
