being built in southwest Alabama has drawn more than 8,700
job seekers in a recent recruitment period that ended Friday.
Officials with Alabama Industrial Development Training said at
least 4,000 applications were received in the past week.
AIDT, which will provide pre-employment training, said it
expects to hold its first training classes in March. The
German-based company could being hiring its first workers by early
summer.
Construction got underway in November on the massive $3.7
billion plant at Calvert on the border of Mobile and Washington
counties.
Operations could begin in 2010, creating up to 2,700 jobs.
