Senator Richard Shelby's response to Defense Secretary Robert Gates's decision to accept limited rebidding on the Air Force refuelign tanker contract:

“This is the best of all options,” said Shelby. “It is important to remember that out of Boeing’s 111 complaints, the GAO concurred with a mere seven. The plan the Department of Defense has come up with is an appropriate solution to remedy the minor procedural flaws the GAO found in the initial award. It is vitally important that members of Congress support this expeditious path forward that not only satisfies the recommendations offered by GAO, but also ensures that the Air Force’s urgent and compelling need to field a tanker is met as quickly as possible.”

If you want to get the goat of oldgoat you have to use stealth. I believe he’s a good debater and has help from some students there at the school where the server is located to do research on articles on Boeing for him. I don’t know if he is directly linked to Boeing or not but It’s quite possible. If it wasn’t for this Boeing mess I’d probably like the OLD GOAT. If you talk to him on other subjects you’ll see his responses are shorter and not sure of him self. He seems really primed for just this one subject.

I’ve seen better performance at trying to defend this contract from average citizens, such as you girls and I’m proud of you, than any of our politicians. The final blow hasn’t been dealt yet but I think it’s coming, Probably the best we can expect is just a piece of the contract. I would have felt much better had I seen our governor or congressmen or senators demonstrate some outrage at this political folly, even if it was just a show for us. But they didn’t even consider us even worthy of that. You girls went way beyond the calling on your parts and a few others. You have nothing to regret on your part. If we would have had such commitment from our representatives and N/G EADS, this thing would have been a slam dunk.

My sarcastic sense of humor missed its mark-I meant our politicians are acting like regular southerners, sitting on the porch, drinking ice tea. But hey, I’ll be glad to provide the porch and tea, if anyone wants to commiserate together. Or if you need something stronger, bring it-just nothing illegal-lol.

Of course they(Boeing and those KS, Washington people) are happy-they have forced them from being a fair competition to one in which money buys political favors. But hey, what’s new.Boeing has been buying politicians for years in DC.

I want our politicians to get out of sleep mode and fight this thing. Otherwise it was pointless for us to have gone into the bid to begin with. If Boeing pulls this off, to come back and take this contract out from under NG/EADS, that is setting a precedent that no one has a chance against Big Brother-in this case Boeing and the bought politicians. It says to America, that if you are rich and well connected, you can buy anything you want, including DC. It will also make Alabama a laughing stock-imo, especially since we are sitting back and waiting to see what will happen. Anyone want a nice glass of ice tea on the porch?
