Washington, D.C. Thursday, March 06, 2008--U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today spoke on the Northrop Grumman/EADS tanker contract at a hearing of the subcommittee to discuss the fiscal year 2009 budget for the Department of Commerce.

Secretary of Commerce Gutierrez was questioned by subcommittee members about the tanker acquisition as it relates to international trade. Senator Shelby took the opportunity to defend the Air Force's decision to award the tanker contract to Northrop Grumman/EADS.
