Published: Wed, July 09, 2008 - 3:45 pm
Sen. Jeff Sessions made the following comments in response to the Pentagon's decision to rebid the $40 billion tanker contract.

“Secretary Gates has elevated the tanker competition from the U.S. Air Force to the Department of the Defense, where he is personally overseeing the response to the eight concerns identified by the Government Accountability Office.

“Sec. Gates is highly respected in Washington, and I applaud his determination to reach a final decision by the end of the year. He is committed to a fair and transparent competition, and he understands the urgent and compelling reasons to start production on the air refueling tankers – already long-overdue – as quickly as possible.

“The decision to move forward in an expeditious manner, by addressing the limited concerns identified by the GAO without changing the fundamental requirements of the proposal or simply starting over, is a positive development.

“It is critical that military experts be allowed to select the aircraft that best meets the needs and requirements of the people who will fly them. The move today will result in additional analysis and evaluation, and I am hopeful that the end result will confirm the Air Force’s previous selection of Northrop-Grumman/EADS to build the next generation tanker.”

I wonder if Gates put a time limitation on the process or if he is just hoping it will conclude by December.  Anyone know?

BamaBob , i just saw where a reporter on fox news was saying it could take up to a year

I don’t think satisfying those 7 points will take to December, but it opened up the contest once more and part of the original bid can be redone, or the whole thing.  If Boeing decides to go with the 777 it will definitely take until December to put that bid together.

Well, Carl, I hope you finished reading what Tiefart, Robots, and Brownnose had to say. We have heard all we want to hear out of them. We want more action from our representatives.

I couldn’t agree more Working4u. You don’t wait until the game’s over then spring into action! You get down in the trenches where the action’s at and face the enemy face to face. If you’re afraid of getting a little dirty from the fray then you don’t deserve the rewards. I’ve heard some of our leaders say they’re not going to lower them selves to the level of Boeing to fight for it. If you want your constituents to get what they want and need, you lower your self to what ever level needed to accomplish that goal or step aside and let some one else take the reins.

Nobody has given up. The facts are that Northrop/EADS were awarded the contract. None of these representitives from Kansas and Washington ever saw the contract. The first of the crying was about out sourcing American jobs and jepardizing national security using EADS, a France based company. When this didnt work they appealed for a GAO review and then threatened to boycott the funding if GAO sided with EADS. Out of all these excuses and ideas they were able to come with one that did work. Getting the GAO to side with Boeing. Out of 111 accused infractions only 7 got them what they wanted. Well, that worked good enough to snatch a done deal right out from under our noses. And the celebration is on in Kansas and Washington. Just goes to show that crying now a days will get you somewhere. Their tricks are not over. This is only the first step for these politicians to get this for Boeing. These folks are not going to be done playing their cards until Boeing has nailed down the deal.

Think about it!  This a great deal considering the situation.  When this is done Boeing will have no recourse.  They will look like the winnie babies they are if they have a problem with this process.  The 7 points that the GAO favored boeing on are all clearical and in no way deminish the ability of the EADS aircraft.  Boeing has not got an affordable aircraft to compete with the KC-45a.  This process will bring this thing to an end once and for all!  I think our representatives have been hard at work in the background.  Satisfying the 7 points will be easy and I’ll be supprised if it takes till December.  We should not give up now this is far from over!

Of course they(Boeing and those KS, Washington people) are happy-they have forced them from being a fair competition to one in which money buys political favors. But hey, what’s new.Boeing has been buying politicians for years in DC.
