atbman that is a wonderful link and goes to show that EADS and Northrop will not be doing anything that Boeing does not do already on current projects.

I have worked for Boeing off and on over the past 12 years. They are a fine company, but if you think they don’t outsource check out this sight on wikipedia. Airbus is providing the planes, Northrup will be providing the military part. Fuel boom, avionics etc.

scubadude - So you do not have a problem with Boeing doing the same thing with Italy and Germany?  Because your whole arrugement is that it would go to france - just look at all of the business Boeing is doing with other countries.  I am sure that Boeing is not going to go out of business just from not getting this one contract.  Even if these planes were going to be built in south Mississippi or New York I would not care.  The fact of the matter is that Northrop won the contract based on the standards set forth.  They did not cheat like Boeing does by buying all of these Congressmen to get the contracts.

asda,
you are advocating sending our tax dollars and technology to france. airbus has never built a tanker. look forward to delays and cost overruns just like the airbus 380.
creating a few jobs in alabama is not worth the negative aspects of this deal.

the tankers need to be built, lets keep it in america.

net_50 I agree with you.  I think Boeing’s Lobbist are getting in hot water because they did not get this contract and now are using every resource they have to try and get this changed.

Bowing has some of their component parts of it’s production built in Germany, if I am not mistaken, then shipped to the USA for installation.  As explained, this company, in the beginning phases, some parts will be built in other locations but installed in the product by Mobile workers.  It is also reasonable to consider, that the company would likely reassign some of it’s technical and engineering work force to our state as part of the restructure.  From the interview that I listened to, eventually as the workforce in Alabama is trained and capable, there is a possibility that some of the foreign built components may also be built in Mobile, as future phases develope.  Actually, too many American companies have components of it’s product made outside America then ship them back to America to be distrubuted.  (while using tax shelters as they do that).  Alabama needs the jobs.
Senator Sessions summed this up as insourcing rather than outsourcing.

carl,
if these jobs for airbus were to be created in arizona or california the good citizens of alabama would be outraged that american tax dollars are being sent to france.

jobs are not the only issue, our security is being outsourced to france. a county that has never supported america since we saved their sorry ass in world war 2.

my expectation is that when the american tax dollars dryup airbus will close the alabama plant, much like wallmart does when it gets a better deal somewhere else.

don’t sellout america for a few jobs!

I must admit i had great concerns about the job loss caused if this was the decision handed down, but the jobs created, out number the jobs lost.Plus instead of just two large assembly plants in the world for large airplanes, there will now be three, one in france and two in america, which should create more jobs in years to come. The net effect should be a plus for jobs and not a minus.I do feel badly about anyone losing a job for what ever reason, but if BOEING isn’t sleeping they will recover. As for the general that made that comment about jobs , he is sort of like most all judges,in his job all he knows is the written law and nothing about justice, because justice is not a written law.In the long run i think we all won on this.

I do not work for boeing. My concern is the 30,000 American jobs that will be lost if French Airbus get this contract. The air force general who stated that American jobs were not part of the decision process should be removed from duty.
Where is the 30 billion in tax dollars supposed to be generated?
This is not a done deal, true Americans will fight to keep all the jobs in America. Not just create a few in Mobile!
