Governor Bob Riley will sign a resolution on Thursday that urges Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to accept the Air Force's decision to award the $40 billion tanker contract to Northrop Grumman/EADS, instead of Boeing.

In March, Pelosi said the Air Force’s decision “raises serious questions that Congress must examine thoroughly.” Pelosi went on to say that the contract raises national security concerns.

Senate Joint Resolution 42, which Riley will sign tomorrow urges Pelosi to “to accept the decision ... refrain from turning this vital national security matter into a political free for all, and allow the competent and capable workers of Alabama to immediately begin work on this critical contract.”

The Government Accountability Office has until mid-June to release its decision on Boeing's protest. If Northrop Grumman/EADS keep the contract, the KC-45A tankers will be built at Brookley Field. It will created 1,500 new jobs in Mobile.
