Governor Bob Riley issued the following statement regarding the Department of Defense’s decision to rebid the tanker contract:

“Secretary Gates made the right decision – it’s right for our men and women in uniform and it’s right for the American taxpayers. This process has lasted more than seven years and has long-delayed the Air Force’s top priority of replacing re-fueling tankers that are so vital to our nation’s defense. There is an urgent and compelling need for a new generation of tankers and we cannot afford to prolong the decision for another seven years. The Air Force chose the best, most capable plane the first time and we’re confident an expedited re-competition will only validate that decision by years end.”

BamaBob, yes i agree on the paving, but not the road clearing to put one in right in front of the airport. they have brought in those big lights to see no i have not seen this and keep in mind its all going in right at the airport. all the road paving to.  from i would say cody going west.

It is pretty common to do paving jobs at night this time of year.  It helps them beat the heat and traffic is easier to handle.

This is one of the most interesting op-ed’s I have read about this topic and I think there is a whole lot of truth within his words.

carl, i could be wrong but i believe something could be happening in the near future, anytime you see the state highway dept out at NIGHT putting in new roads, and repairing new roads right in front of the airport , its not normal

I don’t think our politicians are out numbered in Washington, I think they are not getting help from needed bordering states and those that will benefit from this contract with N/G. I guess our neighbors don’t want to get off the fence and be caught on one side or the other and I could hardly blame them, when our representatives refuse to refute some of the misleading information tossed out to these committees and the Media. Some seem to think they’re too good to get in the argument and start tossing out facts of our own to the committees and Media. This attitude of “ It’s just another day” doesn’t set well with me when some of our ordinary citizens are fighting the good fight to retain this contract. I have this feeling this is a cooling off period they’re giving us to help stifle the outrage from us when this is handed to Boeing. Sure hope I’m wrong!

i think our politicians are out numbered in washington and they know it. but on the other hand mobilians should mobilize and ask ng/ead/airbus what we can do to help. i do not mean to just sign a petition. to rebid this contract will cost them millons. you know during ww2 they had civilian volunteers. wonder if we could do the same thing. i have no clue but there must be something.

Boy! all these politicians act like they’re afraid of Mr.Gates don’t they ? “He made the right decision, and right for the men and women in uniform and the tax payers” No he didn’t! now this will prolong the implementation of this contract and cost the tax payers even more! BEAM ME UP SCOTTY, THERE’S NO INTELLINGENT LIFE HERE ON CAPITAL HILL!
