The battle over Air Force Tankers is raging in Congress and Mobile is trying to hold on to their $40 billion dollar prize. Northrop Grumman and EADS won the contract to build the tankers Friday afternoon. The planes will be built at Brookley Field creating 1,500 jobs. This Friday, top officials from both companies will be in Mobile. What would you ask the heads of Northrop Grumman and EADS? News 5 will ask your questions for you! Email them to , or just leave a comment at the bottom of this story. We will deliver your answers Friday night.

I noticed you did not say anything about the parts that Boeing uses coming from other countries.  Is this because it gets rid of your argument that we are selling out America.  If Boeing would have won this contract do you think Northrop and EADS would be this much of a sore loser?
Also if this was such a big problem for Northrop to partner with EADS why were they even allow to bid?
The whole reason we have the bid process is to help the American Tax payer.
According to published reports- Boeing would only have 13 planes complete by 2013 where as EADS/ Northrop would have 49 ready.  At the rate Boeing would deliver it we would be waiting for the next 50 years for them to deliver all the planes.  Do you think our Men and Women in the Air force should have to wait this long for the refueling tanker to be finished?
Also why is this not all over the major News Networks?
Because they know Boeing is just using their bought Politicians to get the contract.

Atbman, well far as requirements go, the reasons the Air force General said that the A330 was chosen was not required either. He said the A330 is Larger. carries more fuel, more troops and more patients. Boeing has the 777 and this would have even been a more capable aircraft but the Air force discouraged Boeing from submitting a bid on the 777 platform. LOL

Asda, The Boeing Company employs 150,000 Americans directly not including contractors which not knowing for sure could be as high as another 250000 fellow Americans or more. This is home grown talent; with out work they find other careers and than you have less war fighting building experience. Yes Northrop Grumman was the Prime Contractor and was credited with the build. The Stealth Bomber is a great aircraft, but was designed and really built by many American aeronautical companies. Just like most of our current military aircraft and future aircraft. For instance the F-35 and F-22 they are being built by Lockheed Martin and The Boeing Company. Then you have the EA-18G Growler which will replace the Northup Grumman EA-6B Prowler. This aircraft is currently being built by The Boeing Company and Northup Grumman.
So where does France come in, do you remember why we change French fries to American Fries, I cause I remember and so should every American. We should support our Economy.

One of the airforce requirements is for the tanker to have the ability to be refuel in the air. Landing is not an issue. No, avionics are not much different, the coms, radars, and refueling boom operator/equipment are. I think there was also something mentioned about assembling the aircraft in Alabama.

Atbman with all your experience you should know that the A330 can not land in Iraq or Afghanistan where our current military campaigns are. You should also be aware that the current hotspots in the world do not have airfields that support these large Aircraft. You also should know that the A330 is a lot more expensive to operate than a 767. The A330 tanker is being built by companies who have never built a tanker. Boeing has built tankers for 75yrs.  Oh and one more thing their is know more avionics in a 767 tanker than a Commercial Airliner other than maybe encrypted data or com and IFF. Thanks for your input. LOL

did you know that Boeing is getting their Frame from Italy???  They also sell 767’s to anyone with a check that will clear.  The 767 are the base of the refueling tanker.  Before you start to insult people, try and get your facts straight and quite playing on just emotions.  And by the way (if I am not mistaken) Northrop was the one that designed the Stealth Bomber.  So do you think they might know a little about National Security and also building of aircraft?
And by the way if Boeing did get this contract I can promise you that they were not going to hire 30,000 people as you claim.  They have even stated that it would create 1,400 new jobs.  The same amount as in Mobile.  And also please look at were Boeing Buys most of its parts.  (Hint they don’t say Made in USA on them) More like Made in China.

I am an ex-sailor, I have been in marine and aerospace engineering for 22 years, I did design work on the Italian tankers in Wichita, so I know a little about it. Yes I am from Alabama, and I can design avionics. (gasp). I thank God that I am not from California. As far as I know English is still the language folks I know speak. From what I understand folks from California need to learn spanish to shop.

I have a question about employment for the tanker contract.  what ages are going to be accepted for employment? at what age will you be considered too old?

Atbman, take some English classes so you know what a question is.  Better yet do they still teach English there in Alabama because you might want to be like California, they want to teach Spanish as their first language.

Atbman not a veteran. Do you even have a clue what a Tanker is, a little background it flies and it does not have tracks on it and no it does not have 4 wheel drive. LOL
