The Radio-Television News Directors Association presented the 2008 national Edward R. Murrow awards Monday night in New York City. The coveted Murrow award recognizes excellence in electronic journalism. WKRG won national honors in the Continuing Coverage category. Mobile's Makeover includes ongoing coverage of the port city's recent economic and industrial developments. The coverage focused on two of the biggest economic development projects in the United States. ThyssenKrupp Steel is building a multi-billion dollar steel mill in North Mobile County. The mill will eventually employ 2,700 people. And while the contract award is being appealed and disputed in Congress, Northrop Grumman and EADS were selected to build Air Force tankers at Mobile's Brookley Field. If it wins final approval, the $40 billion dollar contract translates into a new $600 million dollar facility and 1,500 jobs.
The award-winning coverage and special report was produced and reported by Investigative Reporter Tiffany Craig, Photojournalist Jud Hulon, former Senior Producer Jennifer Dale, and Creative Services Producer Ed Smith. WKRG coverage included stories from France and Germany. Watch Mobile's Makeover.
