More details are coming out on the results of a study that's being called, "A New Plan for Old Mobile."
Wednesday night, people in the area called Midtown North heard about proposals for their neighborhood.
Mobile Mayor Sam Jones said some of the projects are more than just pipe dreams: they are already on the drawing board.
One involves land at Beauregard Street and Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior Avenue.
Mayor Jones said, "You've got a corner here that Mobile Gas owns where they plan to build a park. They're in the design phases right now for a park that will be a gateway to this community."
Councilman William Carroll said, "It has been a collaborative effort right now between Mobile Gas and the City of Mobile in order to do a park that's inviting, walkable, has a few play structures in it and a few other things."
And Carroll added, "The City of Mobile also has an idea of having a sports complex area and recreational center that's in the lower MLK, or in the bottom, down in the old Hickory Street landfill location, which will have major sports place areas with a recreational area."
But Mayor Jones said don't expect all of this to happen overnight.
He said it would be part of a phased-in plan over possibly five or six years.
There will be another meeting Thursday night to talk about the Midtown South neighborhood.
That meeting will be held at Craighead Elementary School from 6 pm to 8 pm.

ASDA,

It’s possible the police cars you see out of city limits are officers going home or going to work. Officers have take home cars now.

Why not do something about the Orange Grove Housing Project? I do not understand why they invested all that money to rebuild it, then most of the new buildings are standing empty, and now vandalized and deteriorating. Those that have families living in them, are actually quite nice. It’s a shame that that money went to waste.

I think the changes on Broad going south toward Brookley will be nice once completed-but we need to do more than plant trees to make this community grow and prosper.

It will be nice for these areas to be prettier, since we see news footage of them every week showing one or two bodies lying around in the intersections.  I’m sure all that free PR will draw people to those areas like flies now that the ambiance will better showcase all those drug deals gone bad.

Why not do something about the horrible crime in those areas and then worry about building a park.  Oh no wait you are not building the park Mobile Gas is.  So what is the City of Mobile really doing?  Oh yeah taking credit for something someone else is doing.  And as far as this being Midtown I guess it could be if Sam plans on anexation of everything to the Mississippi line. (which I would not put it past him) I already see Mobile Police cars way out of the city limits daily.

I don’t call any of that Midtown? Not even north or south.. I call that downtown & Touminville?
