The Department of Transportation has awarded $2,341,822 to the Mobile Airport Authority to redo the taxiway at Mobile Regional Airport.

The airport will get another $94,080 to refurbish the ramps and drainage system.

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, made the announcement Monday.

“A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industry,” said Shelby. “The Mobile Airport Authority will use this funding to make improvements to its apron and rehabilitate its drainage system, both of which are over 50 years old. These improvements will ensure that Mobile continues to have a strong airport infrastructure in place to support its community.”

The last time I booked a flight out of Mobile, I arrived at the airport at 5:00 to leave, only to find out that EVERY flight out that day had been cancelled. They were not putting people in hotel rooms, offering coupons or anything. It was a mess. This was only about a month ago. The only thing they told us was there there was too much traffic in the air that day??

You are quite welcome. I always shop for the best buys before I purchase something costing $100.00 or more. Friends and neighbors have driven on numerous occasions to pick up family members who fly into New Orleans, Gulfport or Pensacola to save money. I don’t know if every seat on every plane leaving Mobile is occupied, but all things considered, if it cost the same or less to fly out of Mobile, people would not be going elsewhere.

The wife , thanks for the info.

Yes, it would be to get the tickets I purchased. They were around $200.00 in New Orleans and over $500.00 in Mobile.  I think my car gets 34 miles to the gallon on the highway. I know it would not cost me over $300.00 to drive from Mobile to New Orleans even at today’s prices.

i am just wondering, just a question with todays gas prices is it still cheaper to go to new orleans?

The wife—You 100% right.  I fly weekly for my job and I always use Gulfport because the tickets are usually at least $100 less sometimes more.

Competitive rates are also important if you want to attract new business and industry. If we can drive to New Orleans and back, pay for round trip tickets and pay less than half the price Mobile was asking, something is terribly wrong.
