Secretary of Defense Robert Gates confirmed at a press conference this afternoon that he has accepted the resignations of both the Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne and Air Force Cief of Staff T. Michael Moseley.
A major shake up could be happening with high ranking officials in the U.S. Air Force.
According to the website, insidedefense.com, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley was asked to resign or be fired at a meeting Thursday morning. He reportedly resigned.
The site goes on to say that AF Secretary Michael Wynne has been asked to do the same and could be out by the end of the day.
The website defensenews.com is reporting that some past disagreements between the USAF and Defense Secretary Robert Gates could play a part in the decisions.
This stunning development comes two weeks from the date that the Government Accountability Office will release its finding in the Air Force tanker contract.
Northrop Grumman and its European partner EADS beat Boeing to win the 40 Billion dollar tanker contract in February.
That new fleet would be built at Brookley Field. We're still not sure what impact this has on that deal but we're working to find out.
Boeing has no comment on this story but Northrop's Spokesman Randy Belote released the following.. "Timing on this event is unfortunate however neither Sec. Wynne or Gen Moseley were involved in the tanker selection or acquisition process."
