Wentworth, I have worked in Mobile, Alabama 3-11 for eight years.  I stop on Dauphin Street in Mobile 5 nights a week at the not-so-convenient-store.  Female, 4"11 cute blonde with a nice ride and I have neeevvveer had no #### happen to me.  The homeys and hang outers open the door before I get there and wait for me to approach, and I always give a Thank You. I work at a major hospital, I am 44 years old and the younger gals and guys even offer to let me cut in line.  I enjoy talking to them and say oh no thanks your time is just as important as mine.  I am telling you dawg what is coming out of your mouth leads me to believe you have been watching too much TV.

wentworth , convenience store robberies are very small compared to bank robberies. i bet you still go to banks. a robbery can happen anywhere at any time.  you are just making excuses.

Convenience stores like all businesses close for different reasons.  Many stores with gas pumps closed because they could not afford to dig up the tanks and make the necessary environmental ground and tank changes that the government required.  Some stores close because owners get ill, die, loose interest, move, and a million other possible reasons.  I owned a business and was forced to closed after Ivan because it was over a month at the store with no electricity, but still had to pay rent, and other business expenses while unable to operate the business.

As far as late night shopping and working 40 hours, did it ever occur to you that maybe the stores closed because the owners/managers got just plain tired of working 80 to 100 hours a week?

As far as complaining about Mobile, and how stupid the people are here, and that it is so dangerous…anyone who doesn’t like the way things are here has two choices. 1-Leave and don’t look back, 2- Get active and actually do something about it.

I refuse to go to a convenience store in mobile late at nite cause our cops cant stop the robberies.

wentworth, oh please late at night you are in and out of walmart in no time. plenty of convenience stores open all night.

What store are you wanting to open all night? milk, go to local gas station/convienence store.

I’m talking about just stopping for milk and bread,few items. Who wants to go to the “big” walmart for that? I know it’s just a convenience thing but We wanna be the big city but still suffer from this “small” snydrome.

Atlanta is a big city and they close stores just like in Mobile.  I know, I lived there 3 years ago.

wentworth, what type of shopping are you looking to do late at night?  explain what type of store.

I know there are problems, but you seem to do nothing but complain about the city.  I have lots of friends that work those hours and they do thier shopping on days off, weekends, and after/before work. I spent 20 years in the military, and was stationed all over the south east, and ALL cities have problems like mobiles, and all most all stores in these cities close at the same time as the ones on Mobile. And what you think Mobile has bad crime? It has become worse but we still don;t have the crime of other cities our size. We will never have a good city and bring more bussiness to the city if the people that grew up here do nothing but bit—about it, you could try looking at the glass as half full versus half empty sometime, it will doy ou some good. You get off work late, no traffic jams to comtend with, walmart lines aren;t as long, you get to sleep in in the mornings, see just try looking at life from a different point of view, you may find out you have it made and its a good life.
