We could learn on Friday who will be the big winner of a massive Air Force tanker contract.

Northrop Grumman and EADS have teamed up to compete against Boeing for the 40 billion dollar project.

If the Northrop team wins, the tankers will be manufactured at Brookley Field. The win would bring more than 1-thousand jobs and big bucks to the Port City.

A report released from the Reuters news service today claims that the Air Force made a change in its contest criteria a few weeks ago. According to the report, that change resulted in a lower score for Northrop. Reuters also says that it wasn't immediately clear if Boeing's score changed as well.

I think both companies have manufacturing plants in foreign countries that would be necessary for the assembly in this country of the final product.I also hope they took into consideration the scam and scandal involving BOEING and the AIR FORCE’s officer in the past purchasing of planes. For the people of this area, this should show how good we are represented in the senate and congress.

As a Patriotic American, I cannot conceive that the U.S. Air Force would want to depend upon a foreign (read French) airplane for the vital role of refuelling aircraft vital to the defense of the United States.  The French have demonstrated time and time again their refusal to support the United States on the world stage.  To award a contract for a key piece of military equipment such as this tanker to a foreigh company
is totally unacceptable.
