There's more to report on the tanker drama less than two weeks after the Government Accountability Office sided with Boeing on the 40 Billion dollar deal.

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions has placed a legislative hold on a bill introduced by Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas.

The bill would require the Air Force to either give the tanker contract to Boeing or re-bid the contract under different terms.

The move by Sessions means the bill would need a yes vote from 60 senators before it could be considered.

Sessions explains his move by saying "The Air Force should have the opportunity to select the aircraft they believe best meets the needs and requirements of our troops."

A similar bill was introduced in the House of Representatives this week by Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt. He wants to pass what's called the Tanker Recompete Act.

News 5's Tiffany Craig asked Tiahrt to breakdown what his bill would do if passed. "First it would stop the current award to the Northrop Grumman/EADS team. The second part says if you can go ahead and award the contract to the Boeing team because they were the successful bidder on this contract according to the Government Accountability Office. The third thing that it asks for is for a re-competition based on the original requirements for a medium-sized tanker. It takes into consideration the regulations that were initially waived by the Air Force. It also takes into consideration illegal subsidies. It also takes into consideration the national industrial base and the loss of American jobs"

Congressman Jo Bonner says he laughed when he heard what Tiahrt is proposing. "Well, I sure hate that a good pine tree had to go to waste to print that bill because it's junk. It's the most protectionist piece of junk that I have seen before Congress in a long time. I hope that it gets the response that it deserves and that's a circular filing cabinet. Basically, it says to the Air Force that they can have this second best plane and that's the only thing you can have! If you want money for the tanker, then we'll give you the tanker but you have to buy the Boeing plane."

If you can't get enough of the fight over the contract, you're in luck. Clear Channel radio and the Mobile County Commission have teamed up to bring you Tanker Talk. It's a new 30 minute radio show that that will air on Mobile stations this Sunday.

For America,

I seriously doubt he will be personally making the planes. Granted, if that is true, it is wrong and deserves punishment. But how about investigating who WILL be making the planes-primarily Northrup. An American based company. EADS is a very minute part of the contract. And I believe his title is “former” so doesn’t that make it a moot point?

How Boeing Does Business
Ex-Boeing CFO Pleads Guilty, Fine and Prison Term Likely
ALEXANDRIA, Va.—When they met in a private conference room at the Orlando Airport in October 2002, one of the first things Darleen Druyun told Michael Sears was that she probably should not be discussing employment at Boeing with him.

She was right—and now Sears may go to jail for it.

At the time, Druyun was the U.S. Air Force’s principal deputy assistant secretary for acquisition and was in the midst of negotiating a $29.8 billion deal for the Air Force to lease 100 refueling tankers from Boeing. Sears was the chief financial officer of the Chicago-based firm.

Despite Druyun’s misgivings, Sears offered Druyun a job. The pair spent most of the next half hour talking about Druyun’s future as a vice president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems. She would get a $250,000 annual salary and a $50,000 signing bonus, and would start the following January.

For America ,
May 15, 2008 ,Agents with the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, which is leading the probe on behalf of the Army, circulated flyers offering employees a $5,000 reward. The helicopters cost $20 million to $30 million apiece and are part of a 458-Chinook contract for Boeing, which shut down operations Tuesday but resumed production today.

“We have determined that this was a deliberate act and not an accident,” said Kenneth S. Maupin, the Defense Department’s lead investigative agent, during a news conference with Meehan outside the battleship-gray facility where authorities toured the Chinook assembly line minutes before addressing the media.

The announcement further intensified suspicion that the potential culprit may be a member of Boeing’s 5,200-member workforce, a combination of unionized and contract employees who work on the sprawling campus south of Philadelphia International Airport in Delaware County.

yes we want airbus.

Is this who we want making planes for our USAF??

Let’s do the math-is it better to benefit 2 states or 49? I would be enormously surprised if those two states (Washington and Kansas) even realized much of a benefit, other than in name only. I have a real strong feeling that most of those jobs would be shipped to cheaper Mexican and Chinese labor. I like the idea of insourcing, even if it does mean foreign dollars. The Euro is stronger than the American dollar now, so there would be no reason for the jobs to go overseas-in other words-America is the “cheaper” labor for AB, but the benefits for ALL Americans are limitless.

On the other hand, if Boeing is set up in a strong Muslim nation, if they declare jihad, then I suppose they will have the advantage of being right there-unless of course their site is obliterated!

This contract may forever change the way of life around Mobile and surrounding areas.  Not even sure I like that prospect, but I don’t like to see this geographical prejudice thrust upon us by Washington and Kansas.
* Boeing says the tanker contract would only represent a small portion of their profitability, but it would mean life or death for the 767. Is it the AF’s job to keep the 767 going for the benefit of a few people in Kansas?  I don’t think so…..

Although, the Mexican and other foreign jobs take away from AMERICAN workers. But, yeah Boeing will do the right thing and make sure NO jobs are outsourced. Yet, we have the opportunity to have jobs “insourced” so that perhaps someone can avoid bankruptcy, or get off government assistance. And you Boeing brainwashed people think that is bad. Or, if Boeing should somehow miraculously get it-those jobs will be outsourced. American workers lose them (unless they want to move to Mexico or China), the taxpayers will be paying for (Boeing) workers who are now collecting government benefits. I personally don’t care who gets the jobs CREATED by NG/EADS, whether it’s Alabama, or one of the other 48 states this deal will help. But no doubt, NG/EADS is the better deal for our economy, our taxpayer and our military, as already established by the AF.

Hallesy,

Please look up Northrup-Grumman. Where do you see offices located? They have offices in that third world country close to you-CALIFORNIA-oops that is part of the US, isn’t it. They also have a base in MISSISSIPPI-also part of the US. Which, no one seems to mind them building Naval ships, yet it is un-American for them to build AF tankers? Now, look at Boeing-locations in China, Italy, Japan, India and now Mexico. I don’t see any of them on my US map-oh wait, there’s Mexico, south of the border. Aren’t they the one’s causing all the illegal immigration fuss. Oh yeah, Boeing built that fence to keep them out. But it doesn’t work and cost us how much?

Now, think about it. Would you rather have jobs brought into the US, by AB, from France (our ally)  or would you rather have jobs sent to some communist, Muslim nation, or Mexico. Well, Mexico may be OK, maybe it would employ enough of them to keepp them on their side of the border-that would help with the illegal alien influx.

Jamie Burch - Well, slap my mama!  I didn’t put the two together!  I got the impression it was like a local cable type television production.

I will search for the radio version and see if there is a pod cast or something.

Wow you actually put real facts up here and then no one replies.  Just goes to show you Boeing’s Arguements are nothing but smoke and mirrors.
