There's more to report on the tanker drama less than two weeks after the Government Accountability Office sided with Boeing on the 40 Billion dollar deal.

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions has placed a legislative hold on a bill introduced by Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas.

The bill would require the Air Force to either give the tanker contract to Boeing or re-bid the contract under different terms.

The move by Sessions means the bill would need a yes vote from 60 senators before it could be considered.

Sessions explains his move by saying "The Air Force should have the opportunity to select the aircraft they believe best meets the needs and requirements of our troops."

A similar bill was introduced in the House of Representatives this week by Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt. He wants to pass what's called the Tanker Recompete Act.

News 5's Tiffany Craig asked Tiahrt to breakdown what his bill would do if passed. "First it would stop the current award to the Northrop Grumman/EADS team. The second part says if you can go ahead and award the contract to the Boeing team because they were the successful bidder on this contract according to the Government Accountability Office. The third thing that it asks for is for a re-competition based on the original requirements for a medium-sized tanker. It takes into consideration the regulations that were initially waived by the Air Force. It also takes into consideration illegal subsidies. It also takes into consideration the national industrial base and the loss of American jobs"

Congressman Jo Bonner says he laughed when he heard what Tiahrt is proposing. "Well, I sure hate that a good pine tree had to go to waste to print that bill because it's junk. It's the most protectionist piece of junk that I have seen before Congress in a long time. I hope that it gets the response that it deserves and that's a circular filing cabinet. Basically, it says to the Air Force that they can have this second best plane and that's the only thing you can have! If you want money for the tanker, then we'll give you the tanker but you have to buy the Boeing plane."

If you can't get enough of the fight over the contract, you're in luck. Clear Channel radio and the Mobile County Commission have teamed up to bring you Tanker Talk. It's a new 30 minute radio show that that will air on Mobile stations this Sunday.

Boeing’s technology was not what the AF felt would best serve our men and women. They felt that NG/EADS had the better technology, and thus awarded the contract.

Had the “government” not wanted other bids, why open it a sole source bid to begin with? If the government felt that there was a security issue with a company that is minutely based in France, why let them bid to begin with. Did it not breach national security, if that were the case, to let them know WHAT they were looking for as far as specs? The point of this is, that Boeing felt they would win the contract, as they have so many corrupt politicians on their “payroll.”

For America,

I looked at this French White paper-sounds a lot like a Homeland Security plan. They are stepping up to the plate to protect their country as well as it’s allies and partners.Quote: The definition of a comprehensive security strategy is a consequence of the challenges of our times, faced by France together with it’s allies and partners. That would mean us, for one.

As to your quote: As regards the other technologies and capacities that it may wish to acquire, France believes that the European framework must be privileged: combat aircraft, drones, cruise missiles, satellites, electronic components etc., although procurement policy must include acquisitions on the world market.”-is that not what we just did too. They said as much, if you did not read it, that they were not capable of keeping up with all the newest technology, so therefore other technology would be considered. That is a paraphrase. But the point is, the military gave consideration to Boeing….cont….

The Chinese have long been working as subcontractors for aviation giants including Boeing and Airbus!

rmseek1234 , oh my they are taking on a smear campaign blog and of course they are slamming wkrg. http://justmytruth.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/boeing-eads-revisited/

while using their media to be pro boeing, please note they are using the statue of liberty, a gift from the french , to represent america made.

For America , why does boeing not just move its home office to china,
Shanghai (BOEING) - Shanghai, Oct. 24, 2006 - Boeing [NYSE: BA], Shanghai Airport (Group) Company Limited, and Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd, today broke ground for a new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility that the three companies will manage as Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services based at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai.

Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services will provide airplane modifications and maintenance, sale and repair of aviation equipment, and related engineering and technical services.

So point out the difference with the French procuring international bids, to Boeing procuring, in their words “a global market.” There is ABSOLUTELY NO basis for your argument. Airbus stated, the first 4 will be built in France, the rest to built in the US. Boeing will ship ALL, or most business overseas or to Mexico. Why can you not understand that?

French White paper released this month!!
As regards the other technologies and capacities that it may wish to acquire, France believes that the European framework must be privileged: combat aircraft, drones, cruise missiles, satellites, electronic components etc., although procurement policy must include acquisitions on the world market.”

The term “privileged” is key. It means a bias to “Buy European” in defense contracting. The “etc.” in the list of high-end systems to be covered by this policy could be nearly limitless. International industrial rivalry is always an important subject. It is particularly timely at the moment, given the ongoing dispute over whether the U.S. Air Force should buy a partially French built A330 Airbus for its new $35 billion air refueling tanker program, instead of a Boeing 767-based tanker. If European firms are to be “privileged” within the EU, shouldn’t American firms be privileged within the U.S.?

well rmseek1234, i was thinking about your great post. i then realized something that boeing supporters seem to forget when slamming the french.
Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.

rmseek1234, great post and lets not forget that little thing called the revolutionary war.

To all of those that are griping about Airbus being from France, I pose a question….How many of you use Allegra for allergies, Michelin or Uniroyal tires, BIC products (including razors, pens and lighters? How many wear Christian Dior, DKNY, or Maybelline makeup? Do you ever stay at a Red Roof Inn or Motel 6? Do you drive a Nissan. Do you read Car and Driver Magazine, Road and Track Magazine,Woman’s Day or Rolling Stone Magazine? Do you drink Seagram’s, Wild Turkey or Hennessy? Do you watch Jerry Springer, listen to Motown records, watch the Sci-fi channel or go to Universal Studios? Do you play video games made by Sierra Entertainment. Do you use T-fal cookware or Rowenta toasters, coffee makers, etc? Do you watch your Boeing propaganda on an RCA TV? If you answered yes to any of these, please be aware these are FRENCH companies-same as Airbus. So quit your griping-the French have provided a lot of products to us,as we have to them. Your point about using French companies is silly.
