Published: Wed, July 09, 2008 - 3:53 pm
Boeing released the following statement in response to the Pentagon's decision to reopen the tanker competition:

"We welcome the decision by Defense Secretary Robert Gates not to proceed with the contract award to Northrop Grumman/EADS and to reopen the KC-X tanker competition. However, we remain concerned that a renewed Request for Proposals (RFP) may include changes that significantly alter the selection criteria as set forth in the original solicitation. As the Government Accountability Office reported in upholding our protest, we submitted the only proposal that fully met the mandatory criteria of the original RFP.

"We look forward to working with the new acquisition team as it reopens the competition, but we will also take time to understand the updated solicitation to determine the right path forward for the company.

"It's encouraging that the Defense Department intends to take steps to ensure a fair and open competition that, among other things, fully accounts for life-cycle costs, such as fuel, to provide the most capable tanker at the best value for the American taxpayer."

carl, have you heard this, i just found it. i will post some of it followed by the link.

As the Pentagon reopens bidding for a $35 billion contract to provide the Air Force with 179 new aerial refueling tankers, Boeing (BA) may already be at a disadvantage. The Defense Department plans to give extra credit in the bidding process for a larger plane, which would appear to favor Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) and its partner European Aeronautic Defense and Space (EAD.PA) over Boeing, according to Congressman Norm Dicks [D-Wa.], who spoke to the Pentagon official in charge of the contracting process.

I just made a quick round of cnn.com and read what the CEO of EADS had to say. He seemed pretty confident that the contract will stay with N/G EADS.

I’d have to know exactly what they were trying to do to make a decision on if I thought it was worth the effort and I don’t think they would want everyone knowing, especially Boeing.

That’s what I think too, And I don’t know if that is a good thing or bad thing for us in determining who gets the contract. They’ve got a lot of military contracts they’re still working on and there is probably a lot of people who wouldn’t like to see them default and lose all that tax payer’s money they’ve already spent and wasted, so they’ll just try throwing good money after bad.

carl, i think after this they will see a dramatic loss in overseas contracts.

I believe Boeing to be a large top heavy corporation about to collapse in on it self ! I would rather see it down size and save as many jobs as they could. They’ve been making it at the tax payers expense and that looks to be coming to an end. Makes you wonder if sometime in the near future we’ll be bailing them out like some of the big businesses now going belly up.

boeing is the biggest example of corporate welfare in the united states. our tax dollars pay for boeing. the 787 dreamliner, was delayed again because of employee damage to some parts. how can anyone trust them to build something for our military.  they had 2 employees sabotage some military helecopters, this was recent. the fbi has taken one into custody they are still looking for the other. one said the reason why “mad at boss” duh. i can not believe boeings history of corruption was taken into factor.

So basicly they are saying that if they don’t win this time it will still be an unfair competation and they will again protest the decision.

And by the way on the Dreamliner - they first said it was a two month delay and then a 6 month delay and now they are not sure when if ever they will actually deliver the dreamliners.

So if they did get this contract how long before the Airforce would actually see a tanker?  2020?
