Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt says he and other Boeing supporters finally got what they've wanted since Boeing lost the $40 billion tanker contract in February. Boeing Backers Happy About Tanker Re-Bid
Published: Wed, July 09, 2008 - 4:05 pm
U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS): "We have been calling for a recompetition ever since the Air Force chose to award the KC-X tanker contract to a French tanker, and today the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is announcing that is exactly what they plan on doing. After throwing the competition to the French tanker last time, the Department of Defense seems to have acknowledged the Air Force’s mistakes and is heeding the Government Accountability Office’s recommendation to rebid the competition for a mid-sized tanker.

Rebidding the tanker competition in an expedited manner is right thing to do for our men and women in uniform who need new mid-sized tankers to replace the out-dated ones currently in use. I intend to watch this process very closely to press for a fair and open competition. Today I spoke with OSD on a series of topics to reinforce a fair process is followed the second time around."

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS): "I am pleased to see that the Department of Defense and the Air Force have moved to restore the confidence of the Congress and the American people with this decision to re-compete the contract. There have been critical errors in the procurement of this tanker, and we will work to ensure that this does not happen again so that the best possible tanker is selected for the warfighter. We will need to see the details of the next request for proposal, but this is certainly the right step forward."

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS): "I am pleased that Secretary Gates is actively involved in this process now and has made a commitment to get it right. The issues identified in the GAO report were so significant that nothing short of a re-compete will meet the standard required by the American people to have an appropriate level of confidence in this decision and move the program forward.

We will continue to monitor this process very closely until the ultimate contract award. We believe that the Boeing KC-767 Advanced Tanker is the right platform for the mission and look forward to the day when the first one is delivered to the Air Force on the Boeing Ramp in Wichita."

Dont be silly. I wasent referring to you all as cry babies. That was aimed at them. But I will have to agree you somewhat on the way the outcome is looking. Not so good. I dont know what it is going to take to see some opposition from our representative. They just seem to be accepting everything that is dished out.

working4u , no cry baby here but lets face it, its not looking real good sorry to ruffle your feathers, but facts are facts, the only action is being taken by boeing supporters.

I hope our US Reps and Senators will monitor this process very closely until the ultimate contract award. We beleive the KC-30 Super Advanced Tanker is the only platform for the mission and look forward to the day when the first one is delivered to the Air Force on the Brookley Field ramp in Mobile.

BACK AT YA..YOU BUNCH OF CRY BABIES

boeing telling us they will take their time>>>>>>>>>>>>We look forward to working with the new acquisition team as it reopens the competition, but we will also take time to understand the updated solicitation to determine the right path forward for the company.

well of course fox bussiness news the reporter is saying it will be a rebid, it could take up the one year.  not to rebid on 7 but a total rebid.  what a crock.

Will they be saying the same thing when the lose for a second time, or will they be screaming that the rules changed?  Every last one of them loved the first process as long as they thought Boeing had bought a sure deal with the AF.

Of course they are happy-they have forced them from being a fair competition to one in which money buys political favors. But hey, what’s new.Boeing has been buying politicians for years in DC.

Funny that only the Republicans have anything to say about this…
