JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says he'sdisappointed with a federal recommendation that the Air Force hold
a new competition for a $40 billion refueling tanker contract.
Under a contract awarded months ago, the tanker would be built
in Mobile, Ala., possibly creating jobs for commuters from south
Mississippi.
The Government Accountability Office on Wednesday upheld
Boeing's protest of the tanker contract and recommended the service
hold a new competition.
Barbour says be believes the Air Force will buy the plane that
is the best deal for the military and for American taxpayers.
Barbour said that "clearly" would be the KC-45 to be built by
Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co.
Northrop has said its tanker would support more than 1,500 new
jobs in Mobile.
