Aiming to be one of Mobile’s largest employers, the ship building company expects to hire an addition 1,000 workers over the next five years.
The larger work force is needed to support a Two Hundred and Fifty-four million dollar expansion.
Austal says the expansion will include a modular manufacturing facility, warehouse, administration building and training facility as well as manufacturing equipment.
The company expects the additional workers will receive an average annual salary of Forty-seven Thousand Dollars.
By the year 2012 Austal projects they could employ nearly 2,200 workers.
