Air Force officials say the death of Charles Riechers will not affect the 40 billion dollar deal. However, sources close to the story are not so sure.
According to published reports, Riechers apparently committed suicide in his garage during the weekend.

Riechers was a top ranking executive working on the heated tanker competition that has Boeing going head-to-head with Northrop Grumman and EADS. If the Northrop Grumman/EADS team wins the contract, the air refuelers will be built at Mobile's Brookley Field.

That win would bring more than 1000 direct jobs and thousands more indirect positions to our area.

A decision on the tanker contest is still slated for the end of 2007.
