Jeffrey Harris with "Citizens Against Annexation" said, "The people have spoken. They got the popular vote, and I want to congratulate the mayor. They spent enough money and political campaigning to win this."

Donna Reed, also with "Citizens Against Annexation" said, "The people in west Mobile, they were insulted by this vote, that the lines were drawn like they were, to let "A" decide, have the deciding factor on the tax base for the majority of the people out here."

But what happens now for the people who didn't want annexation. Could there be a lawsuit in the future?

Opponents had filed a lawsuit, saying the four areas were illegally drawn.

But a judge said they didn't have grounds for a suit before the election.

Now that the election is over, we asked opponents if they might file another lawsuit.

Reed said, "I can just say that there's a strong possibility. At this time, that's all I can say.

Harris said, "Wait and see. You never know what the future holds."

I am a Mobile resident since 1968 and have been proud to be here, But the way West Mobile was “stole” should be illegal if its not. What happen to government by the people, This is embarrassing.

If you don’t want to be a part of the city, that’s fine. I don’t have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the fact that I do live in the city, and my taxes help pay for police and fire protection. A lot of you who voted against annexation also get city police and fire protection, but you don’t pay any taxes to help support it, unless you happen to go shopping inside the city limits. Basically, you’ve been getting a free ride on the Mobilian’s tax dollar.
If you don’t want to be part of the city, then why should you have access to services that we pay for?

I’m willing to bet those that voted forgot that their property tax will also increase from .0485 to .0565 rate because now they will be considered City.  What a bunch of morons.  It’s already ridiculously high.  Oh well, that’s life.  Taxes and death are two things you will always have to deal with. And by the way, I will never shop at Walmart period!!

“West Mobile” member not the same as “WestMobile” member.

...just to make sure no one else is confused by that similar member name as I was.

I think it was wrong the way they did that all so.  I moved out of the city 8 years ago and I love it.  And now it will just be a mess.
I did not get to vote which I thought was wrong.  I think we should be able to vote all so I live pass the airport this was all unfair to the rest of us here.

I hate the city and will not shop there i will go some where eles.  I don’t even travel in the city now except to work and back home.

I will stop shopping on Schillingers road.

There are other Wal-Mart stores not that much farther from my house.  And soon the new one on Dawes road at Cottage Hill road opens and we’ll have one even closer than before.  That area clearly will never get annexed into the city based on the votes of areas B, D and D which BORDER the city.

Lowes in Tillmans Corner is not much farther for me so I’ll just take my money elsewhere until this travesty is addressed by the courts.

Sam Jones will not get my money and others are talking of doing the same.

If he is willing to rig this I wander what else he is being unethical about.  Look out I think we have another Dave Thomas only this time he is the mayor.  I am glad I do not live in the City and I am looking to Move out of the State I am sick of the way Mobile Works.

Gerrymandered illegal vote scheme

Sam knew exactly what he was doing when he very carefully created an ISLAND out of area B resistance to his wishes. So he drew area A completely surrounding area B so that those DECIDING “no” votes didn’t affect his scheme to stick his hands down our pants out here and steal our cash.

Clearly careful polling showed that if the adjacent areas A and B were combined the city wouldn’t get the Schillingers road business district.

So the manipulation of the vote by the city wins the day. Hopefully this travesty can be overturned by the courts now that voting has taken place.

Area A+B vote totals:

194 NO

161 YES

Lawsuits will follow. The judge only said we had to wait until after the vote to show someone was injured by the gerrymandered vote scheme. Now it’s clear - the lawsuit can go forward.

I just reviewed the map of the zones.  I can not believe more people have not spoken out against this.  It is obvious that section A includes the very busy business district and the neighborhood from Ziegler to Airport (NOT EVEN ON THE SAME SIDE OF AIRPORT AS THE PRIZED BUSINESS DISTRICT).  There is something very wrong with this picture.  I hope those effected will speak out.
