City Spokesperson Barbara Drummond would not get into specifics but tells us the city's new annexation plan will be quote -- "very aggressive."
News 5 obtained a map of the area the city wants to annex. It includes parts of Tillmans Corner and Theodore.
Last September, despite a ton of opposition, the city annexed a chunk of West Mobile, including Mobile Terrace, Cadillac Park, the business corridor along Schillinger Road areas along Airport Blvd.
Will the new annexation plan be welcomed, or divisive and controversial? Steve Alexander will answer that question on News 5 at 10:00.

Something that everyone does not realize is that since you are within the 3 mile “jurisdiction” of Mobile, you are already paying the City a 2% sales tax at Walmart, Lowes, etc for police and fire protection. The total sales tax you are paying now is 7.5% (5.5% + 2%)
If you do not live within the 3 mile City limits, your sales tax is only 5.5%.
Now if this area is annexed, that means that the City limit lines will be further out—and, in turn, people 3 miles out from the new City limit boundaries will also have an increase in their sales tax from 5.5% to 7.5%.
Summary—even MORE tax revenue for the City of Mobile. That’s all the City wants—more and more tax revenue.
The City needs to do a better job with the area INSDIE of their current City limits before expanding out to Tillman’s Corner and Theodore!
