Opponents of Mobile's annexation plan could decide as early as next Tuesday whether to file a lawsuit challenging the election results.

Residents and business owners in the Theodore and Tillmans Corner area will discuss their options at a meeting October 14th in the Nan Gray Davis Auditorium. The meeting starts at 7pm.

Annexation critics say Mobile's plan disinfranchised thousands of voters by only allowing 1,200 of the areas 22,000 residents to participate in the special election.

The annexation proposal passed in Theodore and Tillmans Corner with 454 people voting yes and 180 voting no.

People that have no interest in this annexation whatsoever, they should still take a critical look at how this took place.  It is indicative of a trend in Mobile that continues to deny our most basic constitutional right to vote.
. When gerrymandering is allowed, democracy begins to die a slow death.

How can anyone look at those annexation lines say they are not all over the place?
. Why was an island created right in the middle of the new annexation to exclude one man’s property?
. Why were these non-contiguous lines drawn to bypass all residences in both Tillman’s Corner and Theodore to lasso a small group of people at the extreme southwestern extent of the annexation?
. How can any politician draw city limit or district lines in a manner that only includes a certain demographic beneficial to that politician?
. How can 400 people decide the fate of two communities with a population well over 20,000?

I don’t think this lawsuit will pass. this is a very clear annexation….the lines aren’t all over the place. the land north of Memorial gardens to hillcrest and then to sollie is owned mostly by white-spunner. Then the neighborhood asked to come in. And there is the fact that a city can draw its lines whatver way it wants. Then there is the fact that sales tax isn’t taxation without representation. I’m afraid that this will be a waste of money. Does anyone know who the lawyer is?

The annexations laws do need to be changed.  This is unlike a general election and property owners should be given precedence any decision made about that property.  As it is setup now a renter can decide if another person’s property will be in or out of a city.  That is fundamentally wrong!

The only way to stop these type of unethical annexations is to stand together and fight for what’s right!

If everyone donated $300, just imagine…. You’d have enough to really fight the City against this!

I say $300 because this is the yearly estimated amount it will cost every family in the remaining unincorporated Tillmans Corner/Theodore area in ADDITIONAL City Sales Tax that they will be paying now!

I think it’s great—get another lawsuit up in the Alabama Supreme Court.  Maybe this will help them see how wrong this annexation is.  The VOICE of the PEOPLE!

State Laws need to be changed—this gerrymanders and lasso-ing needs to be stopped!

There is a meeting of those opposed to annexation.  Tuesday night, Oct. 14, 7 pm at Nan Gray.  It was definitely wrong that the majority of the area annexed was business and that the majority of voters for Tillman’s Corner and Theodore were kept from voting.

Thank God someone is stepping up to do something about this injustice! All this talk about it being a discriminatory issue is correct! I have never seen (or been involved in)such a blatant case of reverse discrimination! Count me in!

Sounds good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the most outrageous, discriminatory political manipulations I have ever witnessed!
. With all the talk of voter fraud on the national level how can we be certain that these 454 voters were actually eligible to vote?  If any dead people or family pets voted in this thing, somebody needs to be sent to jail!  The IRS also needs to take a hard look at that church’s involvement in this vote.
