ESCATAWPA, Mississippi - Two of the men killed in a ship explosion at VT Halter ship terminal in Escatawpa have been identified. According to Jackson County Coroner, 52-year-old Dwight Monroe of Moss Point and 25-year-old Alex Caballelo of Pascagoula were killed in the blast. The corner would not comment on the extent of injuries, but did say the men died as a result of the injuries sustained in the blast.The explosion happened at the VT Halter ship terminal in Escatawpa, Mississippi along the Pascagoula River. Four other workers were hurt. Two were taken to Singing River Hospital and have since been released. The other two victims were taken to USA Medical Center.
Company officials said the explosion happened aboard a tugboat. According to the CEO of VT Halter, the tugboat was under construction. The crew was cleaning a tank and preparing it to be painted.
The names of the other victims injured in the blast have not been released.
