Third West Nile Death In Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Health officials are reporting a third
death in Mississippi from the West Nile virus.
Department of Health officials say the death occurred in Leflore
County. The victim was not identified.
Health officials are also reporting two new cases of West Nile
virus, bringing the total number of state cases in 2008 to 86 with
three deaths.
The new cases of the mosquito-transmitted virus were in Jones
and Madison counties. The Health Department confirmed and probable
cases to the public.
The agency conducts statewide mosquito testing with its most
intensive surveillance during the peak mosquito reproduction months
of July, August and September.
