LONGEST MALE ALLIGATOR: A new alligator sport hunting record was recorded on September 27, 2008 when the hunting party of Lyman (Jack) Hamilton of Moss Point, Mississippi harvested an alligator on the Pascagoula River that measured 13 feet 6.5 inches and weighed 633 pounds. This alligator now holds the record for the longest alligator taken during a sport alligator hunting season in Mississippi. Alligator sport hunting began in 2005. To make it even more significant, the alligator was previously captured/tagged/released by the MDWFP on August 17, 2007 as part of an alligator research project. His reserch ID number was "Orange 227." The alligator was harvested 1.93 miles from the location from which it was tagged in 2007. Special thanks to Ryan Rawls MDWFP Agent Alligator Trapper who caught and tagged the alligator in 2007. Measuremnets showed no significant growth over the 13 month 10 day period since its original capture.
