JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Motorists entering Mississippi will be greeted with signs welcoming them to the "Birthplace of America's
Music."

Gov. Haley Barbour says the new highway welcome signs will tout Mississippi's musical heritage - from the blues to country to rock
'n' roll to gospel.

Barbour announced new signs Tuesday at a news conference at Jackson-Evers International Airport, where one of the new signs
will be seen as travelers leave the airport.

So far, signs also have been placed at the Mississippi Welcome Center in Vicksburg off Interstate 20, on I-55 and U.S. Highways 78
and 61 in DeSoto County, I-20 in Lauderdale County and I-10 in Jackson and Hancock counties. Another will go up on I-55 in Pike
County this week.

First of all, the flag included in the Mississippi State flag is NOT the real CSA flag, it is just an unofficial battle banner. No amount of bumpers stickers, or t-shirts from the Confederate Cotton Co. are going to change that. Secondly, the real flag of the CSA is referred to as the Stars and Bars, NOT the battle flag. For people who are so obsessed with the past, most of us wouldn’t know the real history if it bit us on the butt. Lastly, there is no reason we should be flying that mess anyway! I am just as proud of my heritage as the next Southerner, but you won’t see me lifting the banner of slavery and waving it around, just like you won’t see ordinary proud Germans waving the swastika. Just because it is our history doesn’t mean it was a good thing.

clwhite, apparently you do not recognize sarcasm when you read it. I’m just tired of hearing people whine and cry about the stars and bars. I love to travel “threw all the states…

“Here we go again”?? What does any of this have to do with the article? It is simply the state flag of Mississippi. Mississippi was part of the Confederacy. Usually state flags have something related to its history. Remember that when you’re traveling “threw” any state.

Here we go again, what exactly does that flag stand for?

I know what that flag stands for, I guess I better not travel threw mississippi.
