JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Legislative negotiators have reachedagreement to increase Mississippi's cigarette tax to 68 cents per
pack.
House and Senate negotiators signed off on the increase Tuesday
during a meeting at the state Capitol.
Mississippi's cigarette excise tax of 18 cents a pack is the
third-lowest in the nation.
Legislators want to agree on a cigarette tax before they finish
a state spending plan for the fiscal year that begins July 1. The
full House and Senate are scheduled to return to the Capitol on May
6 to complete the budget.
