McCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A McComb man has been sentenced to 15 yearsin prison for stabbing a former childhood friend in the face with a
wooden shish-kebab skewer at a department store.
A Pike County Circuit Court jury on Tuesday convicted
39-year-old Ricky M. Jackson of aggravated assault.
Prosecutors say Jackson stabbed Willie Hayes of Liberty in the
women's clothing section of Wal-Mart on Aug. 8, 2008.
A judge sentenced Jackson to 20 years with five years suspended
and fined him $5,000. The maximum sentence for aggravated assault
is 20 years.
During the trial, Hayes testified that he and Jackson had been
childhood friends but were no longer close when the stabbing took
place.
