GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Gulfport City Judge Bill Atchison is freeon $90,000 bond after being charged with nine counts of
prescription drug fraud.
Harrison County Justice Court records show the 49-year-old
Atchison was arrested Wednesday and accused of allegedly visiting
several doctors to obtain hundreds of prescription painkillers.
A judge placed Atchison under house arrest and ordered him to
undergo random drug tests and a pain and drug assessment within 30
days along with a psychological evaluation.
Court records show the charges date back to April 2007 when
Atchison is first accused of obtaining, for example, a 15-day
supply of the prescription painkiller hydrocodone from one doctor
only to fill another prescription from another doctor at a
different pharmacy five days later.
Atchison currently is on administrative leave.
