According to the St. John's County Florida Sheriff's office, they believe they have killed 56-year old Rodney Lasseigne after he pulled a sawed-off shotgun on three of their deputies. Lasseigne is wanted in connection with the beating death of his mother. Police have been searching for Lasseigne since last July. He was last seen leaving his mother's home in a Toyota Yaris.

Sheriffs in St. John's County were notified that Lasseigne's car was possibly in the area and to be on the lookout. Around 5 a.m. Saturday morning deputies say they spotted the vehicle while responding to another call. When they approached the car, they saw what appeared to be a man inside covered with a blanket. When deputies let their presence be known, that's when they say the man pointed a sawed-off shotgun at them. Deputies then opened fire killing the man.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is still investigating the incident and the deputies have been placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure in these types of cases.
