Former Heart Surgeon Arrested For Growing Pot

Mississippi Pascagoula Police say Dr. David Allen a former heart surgeon at Singing River Hospital was growing the marijuana on his 37 acre property.

A former Gulf Coast heart surgeon is arrested in California on drug charges after a month on the run.

The Jackson County Narcotics Task Force says Dr. David Allen, a former heart surgeon at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, was growing marijuana on his 37 acre property in Helena. They found the pot while serving a search warrant February 19.

Deputies discovered a custom built room designed to grow and cultivate marijuana, along with $1,000 worth of hashish, a drug derived from marijuana, $800 worth of hydroponic marijuana, marijuana seeds, fertilizers, ultraviolet lights, Carbon Dioxide production systems, air filtration/humidification system, seven guns and $450 in cash.

They arrested Allen’s 48-year-old sister Gail Lee and her husband Rodney and charged them with one count each of cultivation of marijuana and possession of hashish.

At the time of the raid, Allen was in Oakland attempting to get a license in California to prescribe and distribute marijuana for medicinal purposes. He was arrested after calling police to say his nephew stole his vehicle and wallet.

Allen is charged with cultivation of marijuana and the sale of a controlled substance. Each charge carries a fine of up to a million dollars and thirty years in prison.

I am a friend and know for a fact that there were no plants on the property at the time of the so called “raid” and also that the equipment found can also be used to grow tomatoes and other vegtables. The only seeds that were found were vegatable seeds for planting a garden. I also have a question for anyone who wants to attempt to answer…......IF there were plants found,why did it take a month to arrest Gail and Rodney for cultivation??????????

Well according to The Mississippi State Board of Licensure Dr. Allen has no public record as of 3/20/2009

KX vicious - vicious suits your attitude very well. I don’t smoke, but maybe you do since you seem to know it might make you paranoid. I have done nothing to be paranoid about…squeaky clean. I just know and care about these people. Stents are making a dent in surgeries, dude. Cardiologists do these procedures…not the surgeons. Most of the time, the folks with no insurance are the ones that go for surgery. The doc did many of these. Do you understand defamation of character and slander? That’s what this is. It’s very sad to see how happy you are over the mess these people are in. I hope you never have to face this yourself.

Anyone know what the link is to check medical licensure in the State of Mississippi? I am just curious. Also, the remark that heart surgeons are having a hard time making it because more stints are being used is just malarky.

I do not see how becoming a pot farmer will be any more lucrative than a heart surgeon…. JMO
