D'IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a
boating accident in Harrison County that left one man dead and his
brother in critical condition.
Jim Walker, a spokesman for the state Department of Wildlife,
Fisheries and Parks, on Monday said no charges have been filed in
the case. He said the incident occurred after officers with the
wildlife agency attempted to stop Conley Bernius, 26, at a safety
checkpoint Saturday on Tchoutacabuffa River. Walker said Bernius is
accused of fleeing the scene. He said Bernius' boat hit another
vessel.
Walker said 24-year-old Christopher Webb was killed in the
crash. Webb's brother, whose identity wasn't released, was
critically injured. Walker didn't have an update Monday on the
teen's condition.
Walker said it could take up to six weeks to complete the
investigation.

That is truly terrible. I am so sorry. I recently lost my father, and it is a tough road. It is a shame that two brothers can’t even spend the day fishing without something tragic happening…all because someone decided to be reckless. Glad to hear that the child was unharmed, I am sure his father sacrificed his own life to save his child…an absolutlely heroic deed. What could have been so important that this man had to run from the police? Whatever it was, I assure you it was not worth the life of this man. Truly a shame.

They were in the boat that was hit. The guy who died had his 4 year old son in the boat too but he pushed him down to the floor of the boat. He did not suffer any injuries. Chris Webb and his wife had been married one year to the day of his death. Very sad!

Thats terrible. I am not sure if I missed it or didn’t read the article correctly, but, were the two brothers in the boat that was hit or were they riding with the man who was fleeing?

The brother has been upgraded from critical to serious. No charges have been filed against Bernius.
