GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Five men were rescued Sunday by the Coast
Guard after their fishing boat became submerged in water on the
southern side of Ship Island.
None of the boaters suffered serious injuries.
As the boat began to take on water, one of the men managed to
make a call from his cell phone just before officials say a wave
knocked the phone out his hand. The boater called his father, who
notified authorities.
Authorities used a helicopter to locate the men during a short
search.
Petty Officer Patrick Hedden says the men were in a 21-foot boat
heading out to fish near Chandeleur Island when the boat began take
on water.
The names of the five boaters were not released.

While I guess in his case it kinda worked out, I would not recommend calling your family member normally in a vessel emergency! Call 911, and be immediately dispatched to the nearest Coast Guard. Mommy,Daddy,Sister, and Brother usually can’t help you on the water. GREAT JOB USCG! My hats off to you! smile

Been retired and guess things haven’t changed.

Good Job PO Hedden, PO Hempker, PO Morris, FN Rodriguez, SN Hugo. I see WKRG and all other news reporters mistaken that a helicopter was used. The helo never made it onscene. But good job airdales, you managed to get credit again where you guys had nothing to do with OUR case. Once again great job to the duty crew.
