At Dr. Joel Laughlin's office in Mobile, they are treating patients with stomach flu with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and a high fever. In some cases, patients are having fever as high as 103 degrees. Dr. Laughlin says dietary management with clear liquids and bland solids is the cornerstone treatment for this ailment. Dr. Laughlin says "running a fever" means a temperature of at least 100.5 taken orally.
Dr. Laughlin is also seeing upper respiratory problems, sinus infections, and bronchitis . He recommends washing hands frequently, staying home if you have a fever, and not sharing utensils and cups even with family members.
He is also seeing patients with allergy issues. He recommends checking with your pharmacist for good nasal saline irrigations and products like the neti pot to ease the symptoms.
However, according to Dr. Laughlin you should see your doctor if the symptoms are difficult to control or if you develop fever, nasal discharge (with headache) or a cough. He says, sinus infections and bronchitis can develop on top of allergies just as easily as they develop with a cold.
