LONDON (AP) - Cambridge University says that famed mathematician
Stephen Hawking has been rushed to a hospital and is very ill.
The university said Hawking has been fighting a chest infection
for several weeks, and on Monday he was taken to Addenbrooke's
hospital in Cambridge, north of London.
The 67-year-old Hawking gained renown for his work on black
holes, and has remained active despite being stricken with motor
neurone disease as a young man. For some years, Hawking has been
almost entirely paralyzed, and he communicates through an
electronic device activated by his fingers.
