When it comes to having good looking skin, experts say moisturizers and the right make up are essential. But, which ones are giving you the best for your buck?

Dermatologist Dr. Heather Haley hears some questions more than others from her patients.

“When I put makeup on it goes into my fine lines and then I think they are more noticeable,” said Julie Ann Hunter, ”What can I put on before my makeup to help with the problem?”

“That's a common problem,” said Dr. Haley, ” a couple of things, your foundation makes a difference and some of the cream based foundations will find those lines and crevasses.”

Dr. Haley says she likes powder based makeups or a mineral make up. You would apply that make up with a brush instead of a sponge.

And, you don't have to spend a fortune. You can find some great options right on the shelves of your favorite discount store!

“L'oreal has a great one, a good over the counter version of mineral make up,” said Dr. Haley.

Dr. Haley says this is a good option because, it doesn't have all those preservatives and it goes on light. She says you will also get coverage without feeling like you have a heavy make up on.

She also recommends Neutrogena's mineral make up line of products.

“Again this helps with wrinkles and doesn't get into those lines like liquid foundations can,” said Dr. Haley.

She also says that people with really dry skin will want a moisturizer first, because they may feel like the powder is drying them out more.

Dr. Haley says moisturizers are an important part of your daily skin care regiment, and it has several benefits.

“Fine line and wrinkles are much more noticeable on dry skin, so if you moisturize daily you are going to diminish the appearance of those fine lines and wrinkles,” said Dr. Haley.

She also likes the Olay skin care line. But she does have a few favorite products from that company.

“The Regenerist and the Total Effects are both good,” she said, ”There is a peptide they put in them and they've done good research, it is a good product.”

According to Dr. Haley gives you the real scoop on those cellulite reducing lotions .. and tells us which sunscreens are going to give you the most for your money!

Dr. Heather Haley will be on WKRG News 5 Friday morning in the 6am hour. If you have a skin care question email it to
