Question:
I have dark circles under my eyes. I bought a Vitamin K solution and use a Cover girl Erase stick to hide the circles. Is there anything else I can do
to make them go away?

Dr. Haley:
Nothing will make them go away completely. Moisturize daily to prevent them from worsening. Injections of filler by a dermatologist may help.

Question:
What if you have oily skin, should you were an moisturizer with your base
foundation? If so, what type of moisturizer would you suggest? I would like
to thank Jennifer for the segment it has been very informative. Wkrg has
been my favorite news cast station for my whole life.

Thanks Teri Thompson

Dr. Haley:
Glycolic acid cleanser followed by a light weight moisturizer with sunscreen, I like Ti-Silc. The silicone in it seems to absorb the oil. This is what I use everyday!

Question:
I am a 59 year old white female and I am having trouble with brown spots or
as some call it age spots on my face. I take hormone pills and have been
told that this medicine is what caused my brown spots. I have tried several
cover-up sticks but nothing seems to tone them down. What can I do to get
rid of them or cover them up?

Dr. Haley:
Most over the counter products will not touch this. Prescription strength hydroquinone 4%. We sell this at Clear. Daily sunscreen is a must or it will recur!

Question:
What are the best ingredients to use when you are trying to fade dark spots
from acne damage?

Dr. Haley:
Hydroquinone 4%, available by prescription. We sell this at Clear.

Question:
It is sometimes hard to find the right product for the
right skin problems. My question for you would be; What is your advice or
opinion about the product Pro-Active? Myself and my son are currently using
it and we seem to be having good results so far. Any suggestions or opinions
on the product? Please we need all the help we can get..

Thank you so much,
Roni Webb

Dr. Haley:
Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in the Pro-Active. Good for red pimples but not as good on blackheads. There are many over the counter preparations that have benzoyl peroxide in them that work as well as Pro-Active and cost less. I hate the way they automatically keep sending the pro-active to you each month.

Question:
My question is... I'm mid 30's and in the sun most every weekend. My family
is active, ball, ride bikes, fish, swim, canoe. etc. My moisturizer has SPF
15, Olay Total Effects. Plus I use Bare Minerals Make-up with SPF 15. When I
plan to spend the day outside I also apply Neutrogena Faces sunblock in SPF
30 and usually wear a hat. A few weekends ago I was in the sun all day
Saturday and Sunday. On Monday I noticed a patch of dark circles on my lower
cheek. (almost like a pregnancy mask, I had while pregnant with 3rd child)
What would cause this and is there a treatment for it?

Angela Johnston

Dr. Haley:
That is a sunspot. When out in the sun all day you MUST reapply. Some sunscreens are more water resistant than others. Elta is one of my favorite and they do make a sport sunscreen. You may need to add hydroquinone 4% daily to fade the dark spot. This is available only by prescription and we do offer this at our office.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question:
Dr. Haley, this list is wonderfully informative! But what advice would you
have for someone with severe & chronic rosacea?

Thank you.
Leslie C.

Dr. Haley:
Use only products for very sensitive skin and avoid all anti-aging products. I like CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer. If severe see a dermatologist for prescription products.

Question:
I am middle aged but have enlarged pores from skin issues I had as a teen.
These are mainly located in the middle ("T Zone") of my face. Even though I
use and like the new mineral make-ups, they tend to accentuate the pores and
make them even more noticeable. Can you recommend a product that would "fill
in" the pores before I put the mineral make-up on?

Thank You,
Bonnie in Silverhill

Dr. Haley:
Yes, Co-Exist by La Bella Donna is a fabulous make up primer that will prevent just that. This is a common problem with the mineral make-up. We carry La Bella Donna at our office. I have not found an equivalent over the counter product.

Question:
I have been looking at a Clarsonic Exfoliating machine. I was wondering if
the cheaper brands work as good. I have read that the clarsonic is the one
that doctors use.

Also, I have adult acne, but I am almost 52 now, I have been using
Proactive, but it is kind of drying to the skin. Is there any kind of skin
cleanser and moisturizer that is good for the adult acne and anti aging.
Thank you so much.

Reba Smith
Satsuma, Ala

Dr. Haley:
I love the Clarisonic Skin Care Brush! The over the counter versions are not as nice and seem to have replacement heads and consumables that you have to keep replacing. I have had my brush for almost 2 years now and I have never had to buy anything for it. It is wonderful for daily exfoliating and helps your products penetrate the skin better.

For adult acne and aging, I like a glycolic acid cleanser, MD Forte or Neutrogena Pore refining cleanser. I would only use benzoyl peroxide to spot treat with because it is drying. For moisture a very light weight hyaluronic acid moisturizer would be helpful without causing acne. MD Forte makes one called, advanced hydrating gel.

Question:
I recently had Moh's surgery on face ( 6 weeks ago) I am 36 what will help
deminish scar? It is still pretty red and visible also it feels like I still
have stitches in even though they were removed a week after surgery.

Stephanie Wheeler

Dr. Haley:
Aquaphor at night. Moisture is the key. It takes about 6 months for surgical scars to completely heal.

Question:
I bought me a derma wand that was advertised on the TV, I just got it two
weeks ago and have tried it but I am not consistent in using it. Will it
diminish the lines, wrinkles and puffiness around my eyes? Will this small
derma wand will harm my skin more or help?

Dr. Haley:
No harm will be done but the jury is still out on these new devices. I seem to think if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. I think you may see some immediate swelling and fullness but I doubt any long lasting results.

Question:
How do you shrink pores? I have “permanent” blackheads on my nose and chin that won’t go away. I’ve done the masks, the pore strips, etc and they are still here. How do I get rid of them? I heard that oily skin is sometimes really dry skin trying to make up for the lack of moisture by producing excess oil. Is that true?

Danielle Brazwell

Dr. Haley:
Retinol is the best ingredient to look for in products when combatting these skin problems. No that isn't true.

Question:
I have two children and since I had the first, I have the worst problem with dry and/or cracked feet. Sometimes so bad I have to limp and the cracks can be so deep that they bleed. It's very unattractive and painful. I have tried many different products with very little success. The only thing that does help are weekly pedicures, which is great, but not always something that can be done with two kids in tow. Plus my husband thinks I'm bluffing - who wouldn't want one pedicure a week!

Thanks!
Tami Hand

Dr. Haley:
Look for products with Urea in them. It is a type of acid that will help with this condition.

Question:
What kind of moisturizer is good for oily skin? And should you apply it on the oily areas?
Danielle Brazwell

Dr. Haley:
Look for lightweight moisturizers with hyaluronic acid as its active ingredient.
