The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says Rebecca Beaty stole prescription painkillers for more than a year from the Daphne pharmacy where she worked. But her plan came unraveled because of an accountant's keen eye.

According to deputies, the 34-year-old pharmacy tech started filling fake prescriptions for Lortab/Hydrocodone in July 2007. They were supposedly going to nursing home patients.

But last month, someone at Pharmerica's regional billing noticed something wasn't quite right. They contacted the store's general manager who then asked Beaty for a copy of the paperwork from the nursing home requesting the prescription be filled. When Beaty couldn't come up with it, the general manager starting digging.

The GM discovered a large amount of prescriptions filled for patients that had been discharged from nursing homes. Beaty was the only common link.

Deputies say Beaty confessed to stealing the medication. Her attorney is making arrangements for Beaty to turn herself in.

No it doesn’t make sense. They arrest suspects. Many people are arrested but are not guilty. A good example were the Duke lacrosse players that were arrested for rape. Not until they went to court were they determined to be not guilty. Before that time they were thrown to the wolves.

They say were innocent until proven guilty! However, I disagree! They arrest people for being guilty, otherwise what reason would they have to do so? Make since?

When the report says.. “Deputies say Beaty confessed to stealing the medication. Her attorney is making arrangements for Beaty to turn herself in.”  Duh! She herself confessed.

I did not say she was right or wrong. I wish people would get the facts right before they past judgment. Are we not innocent until proven guilty?

I saw one time where someone got 25 years for buying some Lortab on the street, what is the difference here?  She converted the pills to her own use, they were not prescribed to her so is it not a felony for her to be in possession of the narcotic???  Just curious, I am sure there are multiple felonies that could apply here.  Anyone else got any ideas???

If you steal one or 5300 you’re still a thief.

if she only wrote one fake script, its a crime so what is the big deal. wonder if they were billing the nursing home or medicare, could be she is in even more trouble.

The news only tells what they are told. It is like you see on TV a bank may say $10,000.00 but only $8,000.00 was taken. Sometimes they guess on when things happen.

Lawnman, why don’t you enlighten us, since you think the media is incapable.

It would be nice if the news was telling the truth.
