Florida's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former Sacred Heart nurse. William Morgan III is accused of stealing prescription pain medication from patients to feed his own drug habit.
The case was turned over to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit after Morgan’s nursing license was suspended for failing a drug test. Attorney General Bill McCollum says Morgan admitted he was stealing the prescription medication for his own personal use. The medication was supposed to be used to treat people suffering from severe hip and joint pain.
Morgan is charged with seven counts of elder neglect, five counts of obtaining possession or attempting to obtain possession of controlled substances by deception, and one count of grand theft. If convicted, he could receive up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine per count.
