LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) - Ohio has executed a 5-foot-7, 267-pound
double murderer who argued his obesity made death by lethal
injection inhumane.
Richard Cooey died at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday at the Southern Ohio
Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
There were no immediate reports of problems finding suitable
veins to deliver the deadly chemicals.
His attorneys had argued that his weight problem could make it
difficult for prison staff to access a vein. A prisons spokeswoman
said earlier that Cooey received a pre-execution exam and was
cleared.
The 41-year-old Cooey killed two University of Akron students in
1986.

Kx, I think prisons, like our public schools, focus on feeding cheap Carbs. Exposure to excess carbohydrates sets people up for insulin resistance and then disproportionate fat accumulation. Someone who is eating cheap foods is basically malnourished.

How does one get to be overweight while in prison, especially after being on death row for who knows how long? Did they let him trade his fruits and veggies for pudding and cake, and his glass of water or juice with a milkshake? Obesity is a treatable condition that causes a multitude of health problems.  It’s probably for the better that they were able to execute this guy. Otherwise, we would have probably ended up paying for his diabetes meds or heart meds later!

That’s one multiple killer we will not have to worry about.

Amazing how we can take care of these folks on death row for years and years before there punished for the very crimes they commit! This guy adjusted to prison as his home and basically was taken care of by tax payers for all those years. Sad, sad at the things our tax dollars are waisted on.
