Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson says the baby is the 16th child saved in the Secret Safe Place for Newborns program.
The baby weighs eight pounds. The mother dropped her off at USA Children's and Women's.
Under the program, a mother can drop off her newborn to any area emergency room with no questions asked.
The mother won't be prosecuted as long as the baby is less than three days old and is taken to the hospital unharmed. The prgram was started back in 1998. It is now implemented in 46 other states.
The health department says the baby is already being lined up with potential parents wanting to adopt her.

I’m not giving her grief for doing it just the procedures. It seems to be a helpful thing if both the mother and father agree on it but no questions asked seems a bit too relaxed. The mother’s and father’s name should be required in case there is a medical need of the information in the baby’s future. I’m in agreement with no threat of charges of any kind for doing so. It would probably be good to get both parents to do this also to maybe prevent any legal hassles later on for the ones adopting the child. It’s a extremely hard thing to go through after raising a child for the first 3 or 4 years and then have the birth parents to take the baby back. But I’d do it again for the baby’s sake.
