America's fattest state, and adult obesity rates across the nation
are on a steady climb.
Nationally, adult obesity rates rose in 37 states in the past
year. That's according to the report released Tuesday by Trust for
America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report
said no state saw a decrease.
The report said Mississippi's adult obesity rate is 31.7 percent
- the highest in the nation. It was followed by West Virginia with
30.6 percent; Alabama with 30.1 percent; Louisiana with 29.5
percent and South Carolina with 29.2 percent.
Pete Smith, spokesman for Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, said
the state has taken steps to encourage residents to live a
healthier lifestyle.
Weighing In On Weight

Swetnsour: You need to contact Haley Barbour’s office and tell him you are going to be his new state publicists!!!! Way to stand up for MS.
southfan1981: For one I do not allow my child to participate in the school lunch program because he is not in the public school system. I monitor closely what he eats, without being obsessive about it. I tell him the difference between good food and bad foods but I allow him to have a coke or a candy bar if he wants one. The funny thing of it is, since I do not eat candy and VERY SELDOMLY drink a soft drink, my son doesn’t eat these things either. Since my surgery he (7 years old) can out eat me and believe it or not having seen me be overweight and unable to play football, baseball, etc with him before but able to do all that and more with him now, he is his own best advocate for healthy eating. I know all to well we are what we eat, however, I also know that it is not only what you eat that makes you obese, there are many factors.
