WASHINGTON (AP) - Got stress?

Oh, yeah, college students say, what with roommates, GPAs, student loans and all the rest.

But where's the line between feeling simply stressed and being truly depressed?

Eighty-five percent of college students surveyed in an Associated Press-mtvU poll reported feeling stressed in their daily lives in recent months: Worries about grades, school work, money and relationships were the big culprits.

At the same time, 42 percent said they had felt down, depressed or hopeless several days during the past two weeks. And 13 percent showed signs of being at risk for at least mild depression. The numbers are based on the students' answers to a series of questions that medical practitioners use to diagnose depressive illness.

They think they are stressed now, just wait till they get a Boss !

Better to face reality head on and plan for it.  I came of age during the 70’s and things got tough!  I always did okay, because I was flexible and followed the economic trends.  Even with that, when inflation is killing half of every dollar you make and high interest rates getting the other half, you have to adapt and scale back expectations.

Things will get better, but it is going to take some time and a serious change in D.C.

This is always a stressful time for students with exams, life decisions for after graduation besides the economic challenges they’re experiencing with so many students unleashed at one time into the job market at once.  I believe it’s important as parents and friends of these young adults to encourage them to keep their spirits high and hopes alive while staying away from those who are themselves depressed and generating negativity with constant bleak future predictions usually due to their own depressions.  Misery loves company but needs to keep it’s distance in my opinion. Karma can be a real b*tch.

It seems like 50 years ago, you were either bright enough to get into college or you went to trade school. Now it’s more a question of if you’ll get a scholarship or student loan to go to college!
Now the bright kids are shoved 50 deep with less than average to average students in class rooms meant to hold 25.
So it IS really depressing when you worked so hard during high school, graduated at the top of you class, then the kid sitting next to you can’t even balance her checkbook with out a calculator, or point to Iran or Afghanistan on a map!

They have good reason to be depressed!  Someone messed up last November and put an amateur in the White House.  Between him and both houses of congress running around like a bunch of kids with a new credit card, their futures look bleak!

If I was in school at this time, I would be positioning myself to move into a government job.  The rest of the economy is going to be dead….
