TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - With the New Year just around thecorner a lot of people will be resolving to lose weight in 2008 and
that means people will be signing up for memberships to health and
fitness clubs.
State consumer service officials urge you to check out a gym
before signing your name to a contract.
There are more than 17-hundred health clubs in Florida where you
can shed the unwanted pounds. But how can you be sure that a club
has a good track record?
Health clubs are required to register with the state which keeps
records of complaints. All you have to do is call the state to find
out what kind of history a facility has.
Officials say if you are giving a gym membership as a gift or
buying one for yourself, be sure to do your homework so that you
know exactly what you're getting for the money.
